Flora vest

The Flora Vest is a feminine, open vest with tie bands in the front. The vest is worked top-down in Soft Alpaca and Diablo Glitter from Hobbii, which makes it soft, luxurious, and gives it a cute shimmering look.

Pattern overview

The vest is made from the top down. You will start out by creating the back piece after which you will pick up stitches for the shoulders. They are worked separately. Then, you will be connecting the back piece and the two front pieces and work the rest of the vest back and forth. At the bottom of the vest, an I-cord edge is made, as well as in the armholes and button band. Finally, 2 I-cord strings are made to tie the vest in the front.

Size guide

This vest can be made in the sizes a (b) c (d) e (f) which correspond to bust measurements of 80-86 (86-90) 90-95 (95-102) 103-111 (111-120) cm. To find your bust measurement, use a measuring tape to measure around the widest part of your bust. If your chest area is not the widest part of your upper body, measure the widest part of your upper body instead and use that as your “bust” measurement. The vest has a positive ease of approximately 3-10 cm larger than your bust measurement and becomes slightly smaller in the largest sizes.

The vest is made in 1 strand of Soft Alpaca from Hobbii and 1 strand of Diablo Glitter from Hobbii. For the sizes a (b) c (d) e (f) you will need 150 (150) 150 (150) 200 (250) grams of Soft Alpaca (50 grams = 165 meters) corresponding to 3 (3) 3 (3) 4 (5) skeins and 75 (75) 75 (75) 100 (100) grams of Diablo Glitter (25 grams = 205 meters) corresponding to 3 (3) 3 (3) 4 (4) skeins.

The pink Flora vest in the picture is made in Soft Alpaca color Antique Rose (25) and Diablo Glitter color Powder Rose Gold (14)

Recommended needles

Circular needles 4 mm, 60 and 80/100 cm for stockinette stitch

2 double pointed needles or circular needles 3 mm for the I-cord edges at the front and armholes

2 double pointed needles or circular needles 3,5 mm for the I-cord edge at the bottom and for the Icord strings

Knitting gauge

The Flora vest has a gauge of 10x10 cm on 19 sts x 25 rows on 4 mm needles in stockinette stitch. Remember to make a gauge swatch before you start knitting to find the right needle size to achieve the gauge. The gauge is measured after washing.
